Zaheer Abbas: Damage from corruptions can be equal to as that of Sri Lanka 2009 attack

Zaheer Abbas, the former Pakistani cricketer, thinks that the match-fixing by the corrupts and culprits present in today’s era can spoil the reputation of Pakistan Cricket Team and it can cause the damage as Pakistan Cricket faced back in 2009 after an attack on Sri Lanka Cricket Team.

In 2009, outside the Gadaffi Stadium, the Sri Lanka Cricket team was targetted and an attack on them closed to doors of international cricket on Pakistan. No matches were held for eleven years. The reputation and image of Pakistan were spoilt among foreigners. Nobody wanted to tour and play in Pakistan and the cricket-loving nation craved for the back of international cricket for so long. They were termed as the terrorist nation. Must be hard on them.

Zaheer Abbas keeping in mind the corrupt activities and the match-fixing scandals today in Pakistan Cricket Team says that we will have to face the same situation as we faced after the Sri Lanka attack in 2009.

“It is the right thing to do for the Pakistan board because for too long, we have been soft while dealing with corruption cases and these have led to a string of scandals which badly damaged our image and also hurt our cricket’s progress,” Abbas was quoted as saying in India Today.

“If the militant attack on the Sri Lankan team bus dealt a big blow to Pakistan cricket as we were forced to play away from home, these corruption scandals have not been less damaging to our cricket over the years,” he stated.

Recently, M. Amir, Sharjeel Khan, and Salman Butt have been the notable figures of corrupt match-fixing activities. On them, many think that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  shall not have given another opportunity to such players. Miandad thinks that such players shall be hanged instead of punishing them in a light manner.
