IPL 2020 and ICC T20 World Cup 2020 could be played in India: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian players, thinks that the mega upcoming cricket events, ICC T20 World Cup 2020 and IPL 2020 could be scheduled to be played in India once the situation flatters.

Coronavirus has affected the sports scenario badly all over the world. IPL, that was to be kicked by a new window of April-May has been delayed until further notice. There are no probabilities of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 as the situations amid Coronavirus instead of getting better is getting worst.

Australia is to host ICC T20 World Cup 2020 but the Australian government has denied taking in the foreigners from the airports. Since the situations are non-handy, Indian Sunil Gavaskar has suggested India as a venue that can host both; IPL 2020 and ICC T20 World Cup 2020.

He also pointed out that IPL 2020 by any means shall be played before ICC T20 World Cup 2020 as it serves as a practice platform for T20 World Cup. He added that Asia Cup could be moved to the end of the year 2020.

“At the moment, as we all know, Australia has barred foreigners from entering the country until the 30th of September. The tournament is starting from mid-October or the 3rd week of October, so it’s looking a bit difficult at the moment. If it can be done, next year’s T20 World Cup is in India.”

“If it can be done, where India and Australia come to an agreement… In case the curve in India flattens out and India and Australia swap… so the T20 World Cup is in India in October-November this year and Australia in October-November next year, then it can happen.”

“If it is going to happen that way, then maybe what can happen is the IPL can be held just prior to the T20 World Cup so that it’s enough to practice for the players to have T20 World Cup,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

“Then the Asia Cup can be held in December in the UAE. That’s a much better time to have the tournament than in September when it can be extremely hot,” he further added.
