West Indies star all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been signed up by Northamptonshire for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast. The all-rounder will play in eight games starting from June 5. However, his appearance in the tournament will be subject to his board’s permission.
Pollard has played 499 T20 matches throughout his career and is close to completing 10,000 runs, while also taking 279 wickets at an average of 24.27. He has also represented Somerset before in county cricket before back in 2010 and 2011.
“Visa criteria permitting, I see this as a wonderful opportunity to be back in England again playing in the action-packed Vitality Blast tournament,” Pollard said. “I want to thank Northants for welcoming me to their group of exciting players. I know they have some amazing fans and I look forward to entertaining them and bringing more success to the club.
“Of course as captain of the West Indies team and defending champions I have one eye on the ICC T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, but I can assure you my focus will be 100% on winning games for Northants when I arrive in June.”
Northamptonshire’s head coach David Ripley said about Kieron Pollard: “I’ve spoken to many people about Kieron and the biggest factor you get from everyone is that he’s a winner, he’s got a fantastic record in winning T20 comps, just an absolute competitor. It helps the teams he plays for that he can bowl the big overs, field in key positions and whack it out of any cricket ground in the world.”
Pollard has had a terrific T20 career and is now an integral part of any franchise tournament anywhere in the world where he is famous for his master-class power-hitting.
