Bangladesh Women could only score 112 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs, losing the first T20I of the three-match series by 14 runs.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Sidra Ameen and Javeria Khan opened the innings for Pakistan. Bangladesh Women’s Jahanara Alam bowled opener Sidra Ameen on the last ball of the first over of the match. Jahanara Alam also dismissed Javeria Khan on 5 runs off 10 balls in her next over.

Pakistan Women were 2 down for 15 runs after 3 overs of the match. Pakistan’s captain Bismah Maroof and Umaima Sohail shared a 60 runs partnership which played a vital role in setting up a defendable total for their team. Captain Bismah Maroof scored 34 runs off 29 balls with the help of 5 fours. Bismah’s total of 34 runs was the highest individual score from Pakistan Women’s side in this T20I. Bangladesh’s Lata Mondal bowled Bismah in the 13th over of the match.

Umaima Sohail also batted sensibly as she scored 33 runs off 36 balls with 4 fours. Umaima got caught by Panna Ghosh on Rumana Ahmed’s delivery in the next over. Aliya Riaz scored 7 off 11 balls, while Iram Javed struck 2 sixes and a four to hit 17 balls for 21 runs. Kainat Imtiaz and Diana Baig both scored 2 runs.

Pakistan’s wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz smacked 4 fours out of the 5 balls she faced, to provide her team with a much-required boost towards the end of the innings. Sidra scored 16 runs off 5 balls and remained not out. Pakistan Women finished their innings on 126/7 runs after 20 overs of the match. Bangladesh Women’s Jahanara Alam stood out with her brilliant bowling as she took 4 wickets for 17 runs in her 4 overs. Panna Ghosh, Lata Mondal, and Rumana Ahmed got 1 wicket each for their team against Pakistan.

Pakistan Women’s bowlers successfully defend the target:

Bangladesh required 127 runs from 20 overs to win the first T20I of their tour. Bangladesh Women sent their wicketkeeper-batsman Shamima Sultana and Ayasha Rahman to open the innings. Shamima Sultana got stumped on Anam Amin’s first delivery of the innings. Shamima scored 4 runs off 6 balls. Ayesha Rahman got bowled by Diana Baig after scoring just 1 run off 3 balls.

Bangladesh lost both their openers on 6 runs. Sanjida Islam and Nigar Sultana shared a 34 runs partnership. Sanjida scored 14 runs off 29 balls, while Nigar Sultana contributed 17 runs off 30 deliveries.

Bangladesh Women’s Rumana Ahmed batted exceptionally, as she scored her maiden T20I half-century. Rumana Ahmed scored 50 runs off 30 balls for 6 fours and 2 sixes to bring her team closer to the target, but it was all in vain as Bangladesh still required 17 runs off 3 deliveries.

Bangladesh finished on 112 runs for 7 wickets after 20 overs of the match. Anam Amin turned out to be the most successful bowler for her team after she claimed 2 wickets for just 13 runs. Aliya Riaz and Sadia Iqbal also got 1 wicket each in their 4 overs. Diana Baig, Kainat Imtiaz, and Captain Bismah Maroof also got 1 wicket each for their team.

Bismah Maroof was awarded the “Player of the Match” for her score of 34 runs and a wicket. Pakistan Women are now leading the three-match T20I series of Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan by 1-0.
