IPL 2020, that has been brought to a standstill due to an outbreak of Coronavirus, could cause more than the loss of USD 500 million. Sri Lanka Cricket Board has sent a proposal to the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to host IPL 2020 at the island country.
Being a neighboring country, SLC has shown a humble behave in the pandemic condition towards India and has asked them if they want to hold IPL in another country to save themselves from a massive loss.
“If IPL is called off, Indian Cricket board and IPL stakeholders will have to bear a loss of more than USD 500 Million. So, it will be beneficial for them to conduct the league in another country as they did in 2009 in South Africa,” said Silva.
“If we get the go-ahead from them to this proposal, we are ready to provide all the facilities necessary under the supervision of Sri Lankan health authorities,” he added.
However, the sporting scenario has been badly affected in India and all over the world as the world due to the adverse circumstances of Coronavirus. IPL 2020, that was scheduled to be initiated by 29th March. It got further delayed to a window of April-May but an extension in the lockdown till 3rd May as disclosed by India’s government has caused a further indefinite delay in the cash-rich league.
BCCI, the franchises of IPL, and the stakeholders can suffer a massive amount of loss if the league gets disrupted completely. It is essential to hold IPL 2020 by any means to save the finances and also IPL 2020 pre ICC T20 World Cup 2020 can serve a best platform for practicing for several players.
