Coronavirus has badly interrupted the sports scenario all across the globe. Cricketing activities are one of the ports scenarios to get disrupt amid lockdown. A few series were held behind closed doors to avoid public meetings hence avoiding Coronavorus symptoms. Later, the series and the tournaments got called off indefinitely amid lockdown of Coronavirus outbreak.
Asia Cup, being one of the major cricket events, can suffer hurdles in its way. However, the first meeting after the lockdown regarding Asia Cup was organized which pointed out for the final take in another meeting.
Sri Lanka Cricket: Pakistan has given us green light for hosting Asia Cup 2020
The hosting rights that Pakistan had to host Asia Cup have got some troubles in its ways as Team India has denied visiting Pakistan in the midst of their political tensions. As a consequence, the hosting rights are expected to be given to Dubai.
Pakistan have the rights for hosting the Asia Cup in 2020. However, the tournament is expected to take place in a neutral environment due to the political tensions between Pakistan and India. In March, Ehsan Mani, PCB chairman, also presented his opinion regarding a similar issue. Now, Shammi Sliva, Sri Lanka Cricket President, has revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board has granted them permission to host the Asia Cup in 2020 following the current conditions in the world.
“We had a discussion with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and they have already agreed to our hosting this edition due to the present world situation. We had an online ACC meeting today [8 June] and they basically gave us the green light to host the tournament,” Shammi told Ceylon yesterday.
Moreover, Asia Cup 2020 is likely to be postponed amidst the Coronavirus pandemic as the decision by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been deferred although the final call will be made in the next meeting.
