Philander stars as England crumbles for 181:

South Africa vs England, the home side resumed their innings in the morning from 277/9 in 83rd over and lost their last wicket on 284 runs in the 85th over.

England had a troublesome start. They lost both of their openers for just 15 runs into the game. Vernon Philander had an amazing day from the start. Philander did not concede a single run in his first five overs, while also claiming a wicket.

England’s middle-order tried to stabilize the game for their team. Skipper Joe Root got caught behind after scoring 29 from 49 balls. Joe Denly celebrated his 6th half-century and scored 50 runs from 111 balls before getting caught by Quinton de Kock. Ben Stokes also got edged after contributing 35 runs from 46 deliveries.

South Africa’s wicketkeeper, Quinton de Kock caught 6 catches throughout the innings, which is the most by any South African wicketkeeper since 2014. The visitors finished their innings on 181 runs after 53.2 overs, still behind by 96 runs.

South Africa vs England, Philander claims 4 wickets:

Vernon Philander bowled 14.2 overs, 8 of them were maidens. He also claimed 4 wickets and conceded only 16 runs at the economy rate of 1.11. Kagiso Rabada also bowled well, taking 3 wickets for 68 runs in his 15 overs. Anrich Nortje took 2, while debutant Dwaine Pretorius secured 1 wicket for 23 runs in his 8 overs.

The hosts started their second innings with a lead of 96 runs. Aiden Markram lost his wicket in the first over of the match to James Anderson. South Africa lost 4 wickets for 62 runs by the end of Day 2 of the 1st Test. Jofra Archer claimed 2 wickets, while Stuart Broad claimed 1. Rassie van der Dussen is unbeaten for 17 runs, and Anrich Nortje is standing firm at 4 runs from 16 deliveries. South Africa is currently leading by 175 runs.
