Sourav Ganguly to become new BCCI president:
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was announced as the only nominee for the BCCI president election. Ganguly filed his nomination on October 14, which was the last date for filing nominations for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He will officially take charge as the new president on the day of BCCI elections which is 23 October.
Ganguly said that when he became a captain in 2000, issues were going around. He said that he appreciates being looked at as someone who can get things in order in difficult situations. Ganguly explained that given to whatever has happened in the previous three years, it is a very important time in Indian cricket administration.
He revealed that he was not actively pursuing the role of BCCI president, but he took the up the job after he was recommended by the senior people in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) set up.
Ganguly said he never spoke to anyone and did not express that he was looking forward to it. He explained that almost all of the representatives in BCCI at the moment in administration are new. He added that in the current constitution, a lot of people are hesitant to decide on the positions in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sourav Ganguly said that is because if your position is not good enough, you cannot make a difference.
Former Indian captain said that the eight-man team which was announced by Rajiv Shukla, will try and get BCCI back in order as soon as they can. He expressed his desire to be in a position where he can make a difference along with the team, saying it would be extremely satisfying. Sourav Ganguly is hopeful that in the next few months they will put everything back in place and bring back normalcy in Indian cricket.
Ganguly accepts that they have a lot of things to do as a team. He wants to get the administration, the house, and the office in order. He praised the Indian cricket team saying the cricket on field has been brilliant and the team has played exceptionally well recently. Sourav Ganguly explained that good cricket ultimately depends upon the infrastructure and the backroom work, and it is their job at the back to make sure everything is in the right order and position so that the team can excel on the front.
Sourav Ganguly about the first-class cricket in India:
Sourav Ganguly made it clear that his biggest priority as the new BCCI president would be to look after first-class cricket. Ganguly said that his biggest focus will be first-class cricket. He said that he has been very loud and clear about looking after the first-class cricketers, as the time that is invested in first-class cricket is the very foundation.
He revealed that he has written many times to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in the last few years to provide for the financial security of the first-class players. Sourav Ganguly said that their biggest priority would be to get the first-class cricket in order and also to look after the financial health of the first-class players.
Former India captain also talked about the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) weakened position in the International Cricket Council (ICC). Ganguly said that they have not received the money that they deserve from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the last few years, despite generating 75 percent in revenues. He said that this is one of the issues he is looking forward to address as the new BCCI president.
