Pakistan moves ahead towards the end of Day 1:


The first day of Test cricket after a decade in Pakistan ended up in favor of the home side after a wicketless first session. Fawad Alam and Yasir Shah were not included in the playing XI for Pakistan, while Abid Ali and Usman Shinwari made their Test debuts.

At the end of the Day, Sri Lanka had lost 5 wickets to Pakistani pacers for 202 runs in 68.1 overs before the play was ended early due to bad daylight.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat. They sent skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Oshada Fernando first. The pair shared a 96 runs partnership before Shaheen Shah Afridi dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne in the 31st over of the innings. Dimuth Karunaratne scored 59 runs from 110 deliveries with 9 fours.

After losing their first wicket, Sri Lanka lost their momentum and started losing wickets one after the other. Oshada Fernando followed his opening partner after losing his wicket to the 16-year-old pacer Naseem Shah, after scoring 40 runs from 81 balls. They also lost Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal soon after. Kusal Mendis scored 10 runs after facing 47 deliveries while Dinesh Chandimal contributed 2 runs from 7 balls before getting bowled by Mohammad Abbas.

Sri Lanka had lost 4 wickets from 96/0 to 127/4. Angelo Mathews took a stand of 62 runs with Dhananjaya de Silva. Angelo Mathews played an innings of 31 runs from 77 balls before getting caught by Asad Shafiq at the second slip on Naseem Shah’s delivery.

Dhananjaya de Silva and wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella are still standing on the crease and will resume their innings on Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, Day 2 of 1st Test. Dhananjaya de Silva is not out after scoring 38 runs from 77 balls, while Niroshan Dickwella is standing firm at 11 runs from 13 deliveries.
