VVX Laxman, the former international Indian cricketer and the commentator of the present time, thinks that if Indian Premier League (IPL) goes ahead, it can set the flow in performance for ICC T20 World Cup 2020.
He feels that organizing the T20 league, IPL, before kicking off the mega-event like T20 World Cup can enhance the performance of players with a surplus boost. Earlier, the head coach of Australia Cricket Team, Justin Langer, also says that there is no better platform than IPL to practice for ICC T20 World Cup.
Speaking to the journalists, Laxman cleared that the current global crisis shall die first before organizing a league like IPL. He discussed the popularity of the cash-rich league and considered it as the boost for T20 World Cup that is to be played by 18th October.
“I think some of the cricket boards will be encouraging the fact that IPL is a big tournament, and everyone acknowledges that. And just before the World Cup, it will set the tone for a hectic cricket season.”
“But I just hope that everything is normal, and no one is in danger. And once that happens, I am sure the IPL should kick off the cricket calendar,” added Laxman.
However, Michael Vaughan, former England’s skipper, is also of a similar view and wants IPL to be organized regularly as he conveyed the importance of both; IPL and World Cup, in his statements.
“Here’‘s a thought. The IPL is played for the 5 weeks leading up to the T20 World Cup in Oz… all players use it as the great warm-up for the WC .. then the WC happens. So important for the game that the IPL takes place but also the WC.”
