The meeting to decide the future of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 has been held on 28th May by ICC. Consequently, ICC have decided to postpone any decision regarding the World Cup and will have a call on the relevant matter in the next meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for 10th June.
Via telecommunication, the officials of ICC met, and decided to postpone the decision. Earlier, it seems like that the cricketing body will go for canceling the T20 World Cup amidst the Coronavirus outbreak but they have decided not to say a word till 10th June.
ICC T20 World Cup 2020: The fate of the mega event to be decided in another meeting
However, the chances still exist that in the next meeting, rescheduling the mega-event to another window of 2021 or 2022 would be revealed as ICC will never choose to keep mega and cash-generating tournament truncated and behind closed doors.
Moreover, if it cancels, BCCI can have an eye on a possible window somewhere near T20 World Cup’s existing schedule.
The smaller boards that get money from ICC, are not in favor of postponing the event and wants the major cricketing body to organize it anyhow. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also counted among those boards that do not support the postponement and cancelation in the ICC T20 World Cup 2020.
“We are in May and there is still time. The ICC members should wait and see where this Coronavirus pandemic goes. A decision on staging the event can be taken even after say two months,” PCB official said earlier.
“There is no cricket being played right now but in two months’ time we will know what is the position because West Indies and Pakistan are to play in England if things go according to plan,” he added.
