“England not ‘afraid’ to drop Broad or Anderson”

Chris Silverwood is ready to take tough decisions:

England’s head coach Chris Silverwood has said that he will not hesitate from making tough selection decisions.

Silverwood insisted that England can play a spinner, if necessary, in the upcoming Cape Town Test against South Africa even if they have to drop the two most experienced bowlers in their team.

England had suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of South Africa in the first Test of the 4-match Test series. The visiting side was defeated by a margin of 107 runs.

Despite the defeat, Sam Curran claimed 4 wickets in the first innings, while Jofra Archer secured a five-wicket haul. Considering the recent performances, the only reasonable choice will be to drop either Stuart Broad or James Anderson, but, can England afford that?

Chris Silverwood talked about England’s decision:

England Head Coach said: “In Jimmy and Stuart we have a wealth of experience and we’d be really stupid not to take that into consideration every game. It would be naïve of us not to do that. But equally, you do want your youngsters to come through and if we’re going to make room for a spinner then we’ve got to have a look at that. “

“We have to look at which seamers will be right for that particular pitch and choose from there. If there is a big decision to be made, we’re not afraid to make it. We started off planning the bowl at the top of off on the third morning. Then the tailenders frustrated us and we went off-piste a bit at that point. We formulated a new plan and that worked well. We’ve got to make sure that when we’re bowling we’re very clear on what we have to do and we stick to the plan,” Chris Silverwood added.
