Ireland’s Gareth Delany on fire:
Oman won the toss and decided to field first. Ireland sent Paul Stirling and Kevin O’Brien to bat first against Oman. Paul Striling got bowled by Mohammad Nadeem after scoring 11 runs off 14 balls in the fifth over of the match. Kevin O’Brien played an exceptional innings before he got bowled by Khawar Ali of Oman. Kevin O’Brien scored 41 runs off 28 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six.
Gareth Delany and Harry Tector then took a stand of 43 runs together where Harry Tector contributed 28 runs off 20 balls. Gareth Delany played an outstanding innings with the bat, scoring an undefeated 89 runs off 49 balls. Gareth Delany struck a total of 9 fours and 3 huge sixes to achieve his total. Mark Adair also remained not out alongside Gareth after scoring 11 runs off 9 balls.
Gareth played a vital role in bringing Ireland’s total to 183 runs. He shared an unbeaten partnership of 64 runs off 30 balls with Mark Adair. The score of 89* runs was also Gareth Delany’s highest individual score so far in his T20I career.
Oman’s bowlers turned out to be rather costly for their team. Bilal Khan who claimed 1 wicket gave away 46 runs in his 4 overs. Aamir Kaleem conceded 21 runs in his 2 overs. Mohammad Nadeem got 1 wicket for 29 runs and Khawar Ali got took 1 wicket for 28 runs in his four overs.
Oman’s innings, Khawar Ali’s half-century in vain:
Oman required 184 runs off 120 balls to win the match against Ireland. Oman sent Jatinder Singh and Khawar Ali to bat first. Jatinder Singh lost his wicket for just 10 runs to David Delany. Khawar Ali played a blistering innings of 50 runs off 34 balls. Khawar Ali struck 4 fours and 3 sixes to complete his maiden T20I half-century.
Gareth Delany dismissed Khawar Ali in the 10th over of the innings, bringing Oman down to 76/4. Oman still required 108 runs off the remaining 10 overs. Aamir Kaleem scored 12 while wicketkeeper-batsman Suraj Kumar contributed 16 runs off 12 balls. Khurram Nawaz scored 11 runs off 13 balls and no other batsmen made it past single digits for Oman. In the end, Oman had scored 148 runs off 9 wickets after 20 overs, losing the game by 35 runs.
Gareth Delany performed well with the ball as well. He took 2 wickets for 29 runs in his 4 overs. Mark Adair also claimed 2 wickets for 26 runs. George Dockrell bowled 3 overs, conceding 24 runs for 2 wickets. David Delany and Boyd Rankin got 1 wicket each for their team.
