Worcestershire’s innings against Essex:

Worcestershire’s Hamish Rutherford and Riki Wessels came to bat for Worcestershire against Essex in the final match of Vitality T20 Blast 2019.

Hamish Rutherford got bowled by Dan Lawrence in the very first over of the final. After the wicket of Hamish Rutherford fell, Worcestershire’s captain Moeen Ali and Riki Wessels brought some stability to their team with their partnership of 56 runs. Riki Wessels scored 31 runs off 34 balls while Worcestershire’s captain Moeen Ali remained top-scorer from Worcestershire with his 32 runs off 26 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes against Essex.

After Worcestershire’s captain, Moeen Ali lost his wicket to Essex’s captain Simon Harmer in the 9th over of the match, the rest of Worcestershire batting lineup followed him one after the other. At the time of Moeen Ali’s dismissal, Worcestershire was at a score of 61/2 in 8.2 overs. The rest of Worcestershire’s batting could not do much against the bowling attack of Essex and finished their innings on 145 runs in 20 overs.

Ravi Bopara of Essex along with Essex captain Simon Harmer, took it upon himself to carry Essex towards victory with his much needed 36 runs off 22 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 2 fours and remained not out. Essex’s captain Simon Harmer scored undefeated 18 runs off 7 balls to give that final push to Essex towards victory. Essex scored 148/6 in the 20 overs of the match.

Worcestershire’s captain Moeen Ali and Wayne Parnell took 2 wickets while Pat Brown and Daryl Mitchel took 1 wicket each for Worcestershire against Essex.

Essex’s captain Simon Harmer was awarded “Player of the Match” for his brilliant leadership and match-winning performances with both bat and bowl.

Essex won the title of the Vitality T20 Blast 2019 for the first time. Essex’s captain Simon Harmer said about winning the title that it was one of those days where everything came off. Essex’s all-rounder Ravi Bopara who played a match-winning innings today was very excited and said it is the one trophy Essex did not have in their cabinet. Ravi Bopara further said that he has won everything else with Essex and this was the one he was desperate for.

Worcestershire’s captain Moeen Ali said about the final that he was disappointed with the result but not with the performance of his team. Moeen Ali said about Ravi Bopara of Essex that in his opinion, Ravi Bopara won Essex the game.
