Ben Dwarshuis to Nick Larkin. Off cutter back of a length, to leg on the back foot driving, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Philippe. Sydney Sixers win the ninth edition of the BBL! They completely dominated in this final. Josh Philippe starred with the bat with a super half century, and once again it was the spinners who did the business with the ball. Unfortunately for the Stars, they just haven't shown up in the final again. Not at the races today, and the Sixers totally deserve the title, which is their second in their history. That is the end of another wonderful year of Big Bash cricket. Superb entertainment throughout. Only another 10 months still it starts all over again.

FOUR! Josh Hazlewood to Nick Larkin. Yorker, middle stump on the front foot Steer, well timed past third man for 4 runs. Hazlewood couldn't do much more with that. OUT! Bowled. Adam Zampa to Josh Philippe. Leg spinner length ball, middle stump moves in front Scoop, Play and Miss (Leg Side) to. Philippe goes a long way across, exposes the stumps, and the ball gets through to hit the leg pole. Good bowling from the leg spinner. Held his nerve and arrowed it into the wickets.Decent total on the board from the Sixers. Josh Philippe was the main contributor with his fifty. Steve Smith and Jordan Silk chipped in with handy twenties as well. The spinners were the pick of the bowlers for the Stars. It could go either way in the chase. It really is a thrilling end to this competition.

Start of Sydney Sixers Innings. Welcome to the BBL final! There has been a serious amount of rain around Sydney this evening, but thankfully things have cleared and some cricket will be played. The Stars have won the bat-flip and elected to bowl first. These two teams have been the best in the tournament, so it is fitting that they will battle it out for the trophy. It will be a shortened match, so it is even more of a lottery to who comes out on top. Who will stand up and produce a bit of magic on the biggest stage? It should be an absolute cracker whatever the result.

Larkin wants the second run, but slips and sends Handscomb back. It was too late, though. He was halfway down before turning back, and Abbott already had the ball in his hands. Off comes the bails, and he isn't in the frame. Village stuff from the Stars. An almost impossible job for Melbourne now.

OUT! L.B.W. Steve O'Keefe to Glenn Maxwell. Stock length ball, middle stump on the front foot slog sweeping, hit pad to. Massive moment in the game. The Stars are on the back foot now. Maxwell gets down low, and wants to hoick this behind square for a big one. A tiny bit of grip off the surface, and the ball gets through to clip the front pad. Huge shout, and up goes the finger! This season’s three matches have been notable for different reasons. First, Marcus Stoinis smashed a BBL-record 147* in a total of 219/1 as the Stars won by 44 runs at the MCG. Next, Stoinis scored 62 from 37 balls in a rain-reduced game, but the Stars’ 125/5 from 14 overs was not enough after Moises Henriques had hit 72 from 31 balls in the Sixers’ 143/4.

In the Qualifier, meanwhile, it was the Sixers’ bowlers who thrived. Most notable was fit again Sean Abbott, who took three wickets as the Stars collapsed to 99 all out and a 43-run defeat.
