Pakistan defeats India in HomeWorld Thunder Cup

Pakistan wins HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup:

Pakistan defeated India by seven wickets in the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup final at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Monday.

The HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup’s goal is to bring communities together in order to connect and celebrate culture. The sixth edition of the tournament had more than 600 players from eight different communities. The communities included: African nations, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Nepal.

The final was played after the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder. The final was played between Pakistan and India in their 4th meeting in the past 5 years after the two sides had progressed through the semi-finals of the tournament.

Pakistan’s captain Umair Warraich said after winning the final: “It is a huge opportunity just to feel that type of environment which only elite sportspeople tend to feel, and it was great fun.

“It was really important for us not to get too caught up in the moment and just focus on the brand of cricket which we have been playing and luckily for us we were able to do that.

“It’s a great honor to represent Pakistan in any capacity but to do that in cricket is such a great feeling and hopefully it will encourage more and more people to come and attend the trials and want to also represent Pakistan and eventually help to promote the game of cricket.”
