In the ongoing National T20 Cup, a player (name not revealed) has reported a suspected corrupt approach to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for which the PCB is taking serious action. After several investigations, the case has been directed to the Federal Investigation Unit (FIU) as they will be probing the case legally ahead.
The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) official thanked the player for reporting the matter to the board and has decided to keep the identities of both players hidden. The reason for not revealing their identities is the sensitive information the board should specify to themselves only.
A player reports the corrupt approach in the National T20 Cup.
“I have spoken with the player to compliment and thank him for following the PCB Anti-Corruption Code and reporting the approach to the anti-corruption officer.
“Following the report, the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit carried out its own probe and unearthed some sensitive information, which has been forwarded to the FIA, which has the required expertise, resources, capabilities, and powers to investigate such matters,” the ACU director was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
“As we cannot jeopardize an ongoing investigation, it will be inappropriate for us to share any specifics of the approach.
“However, the PCB as a responsible member of the International Cricket Council will continue to keep the game’s administrative body abreast of the progress in investigations as part of our information-sharing approach,” he further said.
However, the event started on 30th September and is the first tournament being held in Pakistan after numerous months of lockdown amidst the COVID-19 fears. The six domestic franchises are in a battle with each other and look forward to clinching the trophy. Notably, it is the first corrupt approach being reported of the ongoing tournament.
