The former chief selector of Pakistan Cricket, Inzamam ul Haq, believes that on comparing the initial stages of Virat Kohli and Babar Azam, one will find out that Azam is clearly ahead of the Indian skipper.
Inzamam has applauded Azam with praise and said that he has achieved a lot in just a shorter span and he still has got a long way to go. He mentioned that it has been a decade since Kohli started playing.
Notably, Babar is the only batsman to occur in the top 10 ICC batsmen rankings for all formats. However, he started playing cricket years after Kohli and still has got better stats than the Indian skipper in the T20 format.
Inzamam ul Haq: Babar is ahead of Kohli if one compares their initial years
“In just a few years he has achieved a lot and I know he can do even better than what he has done so far. Kohli has been playing for 10 years while Babar’s been here for three, four years but if you compare initial days of Babar and Kohli, you’ll see Babar is ahead,” Inzamam said.
Inzamam also believes that the selection committee (PCB) was premature to sack Sarfaraz Ahmed of captaincy who served the cricket for so long with the winning titles.
Inzamam, who himself was stepped down of his role, said that Sarfaraz shall not have been replaced. Reviving the former skipper’s achievements, the ex-chief-selector mentioned how the team was at the number one T20 spot and also lifted the Champions Trophy 2017 proving himself as a potent captain.
“Sarfaraz kept the team number one in T20, won the champions trophy, won other matches too, which proves that he was an able captain,” Inzamam told Geo Super.
“Form can come and go but it was premature to remove a captain who had won us so much.”
