South Africa Women won the toss by elected to bat first against India. South Africa sent Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt first to open the match. Lizelle Lee lost her wicket on a golden duck as she got lbw by Jhulan Goswami on the very first ball of the match. Lizelle Lee’s opening partner Laura Wolvaardt scored 39 runs off 62 balls.

South Africa Women’s wicketkeeper-batsman Trisha Chetty was only able to make 14 runs off 17 balls, while South Africa’s captain Sune Luus scored 22 runs off 43 balls. Marizanne Kapp played a sensible innings of 54 runs off 64 balls with the help of 6 fours at a very crucial time for South Africa as the wickets were falling all around her.

Marizanne Kapp was the last person to be dismissed for South Africa after she contributed 54 runs and brought her team’s total to 164 runs in 45.1 overs, while also remaining the top-scorer from the South African side. South Africa Women set up a target of 165 runs against India Women.

India sent Jemimah Rodrigues and the debutant Priya Punia to open the game against South Africa Women. Jemimah Rodrigues and Priya Punia provided a sound start to the Indian squad with a partnership of 83 runs for the first wicket, before Jemimah Rodrigues lost her wicket to the South African debutant, Nondumiso Shangase.

Jemimah Rodrigues scored 55 runs off 65 balls for 7 fours. India Women’s Priya Punia played an exceptional innings of 75 runs off 124 balls on her debut. Priya Punia struck a total of 8 fours as she remained not out while also being the top-scorer from India’s side in their chase of 165 runs.

Punam Raut scored 16 runs off 38 balls while India Women’s captain Mithali Raj remained not out after scoring 11 runs off 24 balls.

The South Africa Women’s bowlers were unable to grab any wickets with the exception of Nadine de Klerk and the debutant Nondumiso Shangase, as they both took 1 wicket each for their team against India.

India Women’s Priya Punia was awarded the “Player of the Match” for her brilliant performance with the bat in her first ODI. Punia’s innings of 75 runs secured the 8-wicket win for India with 50 balls remaining, as she scored her maiden half-century on her debut.

India Women are now leading the three-match ODI series of South Africa’s tour of India by 1-0 with 2 matches to go. India won the six-match T20I series by 3-1 against South Africa Women with two T20I being abandoned. India will now play their 2nd ODI of their series against South Africa Women on October 11 at Vadodara.
