Cricket Australia (CA) have called off the upcoming T20I series against West Indies amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia were to host three T20Is at Townsville, Cairns, and Gold Coast, respectively.
Coronavirus has smashed everything even if sports bodies/activities or economies and businesses. It has marked a full stop in front of all cricketing activities.
Cricketing scenarios have been paused and have been badly affected globally. The series, leagues, and tournaments got paused and still, there isn’t a major probability for kicking off although international cricket has been resumed behind closed doors after West Indies and England played a three-match test series.
Australia vs West Indies T20I series postponed amidst COVID-19
The three T20Is were scheduled to be played on 4th, 6th, and 9th October at the venues mentioned above respectively.
The series has become the latest cricket match to get postponed. Before that, the ICC T20 cricket World Cup, Asia Cup, and many bilateral series have been called off. Pakistan vs the Netherlands was the recent one.
For World Cup to be staged in Australia, the decision was hanging by a thread for so long and despite Australia’s announcement of fewer possibilities for hosting the tournament amidst the pandemic, ICC delayed the decision.
The tournament was all set to be staged by 18th October. However, it has not been announced yet if the 2021 edition of the tournament will go ahead in India as planned, and 2022 competition in Australia or the Australia edition will be moved to 2021 and India to 2022. The 2023 edition of the World Cup will take place in October and November in place of February and March.
