Madhav Apte dies at 86:
Former Indian Test opener Madhav Apte passed away at 86 years of age in the Mumbai Candy Hospital. Former Indian cricketer Madhave Apte made his against Pakistan in 1952 and played for India in seven Tests, scoring 542 runs at an average of 49 with 3 half-centuries and a century in 13 innings under his record.
Former Indian opener and Sachin Tendulkar’s mentor Madhav Apte was admitted to the Mumbai Candy Hospital where he passed away due to a cardiac arrest at 6:09 am on 23rd September 2019.
Former Indian Cricketer Madhav Apte impressed everyone around the world with his brilliant batting on the tour to West Indies in 1952/1953 and scored a total of 460 runs at the incredible average of 50plus which comprised of 3 half-centuries and a top score of undefeated 163* at the Port of Spain. Madhav Apte of India was also the first Indian opener to aggregate over 400 runs in a Test series which was against the team of West Indies.
Madhav Apte of India also represented Mumbai and led them towards winning two Ranji Trophy titles in 1958-1959 and 1961-1962. Former Indian opener Madhav Apte had a terrific first-class record. Madhav Apte scored 3,336 runs in 67 matches, which includes 16 half-centuries and 6 tons. Madhav Apte’s highest first-class score was undefeated 165 runs.
Former Indian cricketer Madhav Apte started his career as a leg spinner but with the help of Vinoo Mankad, Madhav Apte was able to become an opening batsman for India. Madhav Apte was also selected as the president of the Mumbai Cricket Club. Madhav Apte also played an active role in the development of Sachin Tendulkar, one of the best batsmen of the world to ever exist, and also promoted him to the Cricket Club of India (CCI) team at the age of 15.
Former Indian opener Madhav Apte played along with many legendary players including Mankad, Polly Umrigar, Vijay Hazare, and Rusi Modi.
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) also offered condolences on the passing of former Indian cricketer Madhav Apte saying that he will be remembered as one of the country’s most loved cricketers.
After India’s successful tour to West Indies, India did not play any Test matches and Madhav Apte mysteriously never returned to international cricket.
