Karim Janat earns maiden Test call-up for Test against West Indies:
Afghanistan’s all-rounder Karim Janat, who bagged the match-winning figure of 5/11 with the ball against the 2nd T20I against West Indies, has earned a maiden Test call-up. Fast bowler Nijat Masood is also included in the Test Squad. Afghanistan will play 1 Test against West Indies in Lucknow starting from November 27.
This will be Afghanistan’s 4th Test overall and their 1st Test without Mohammad Nabi, who announced his retirement from the longest format of the game after their 224-runs win against Bangladesh in September this year.
Amir Hamza Hotak and Nasir Jamal also made their returns into the Test Squad. Spinner Amir Hamza Hotak made his last international appearance in 2017, while the 25-year-old middle-order batsman Nasir Jamal played his last ODI against Zimbabwe in March 2018.
Karim Janat heroics in the 2nd T20I against WI earns him Test Call up:
Karim Janat played outstandingly with both the bat and the ball in the 2nd T20I against West Indies. He smacked 26 runs from 18 balls before getting lbw by Jason Holder. Karim Janat then claimed 5 wickets with the ball for just 11 runs in his 4 overs, restricting West Indies to 106/8 after 20 overs of the match. He took a total of 6 wickets in the 2 matches he played during the 3-match T20I series against West Indies, where Afghanistan won the series by 2-1.
Karim has played 21 T20Is and claimed 24 wickets at an average of 25.58, while also making an appearance in a solitary ODI.
20-years-old fast bowler Nijat Masood, who has not made an international appearance yet, will be a part of the 15-member squad alongside Karim for the upcoming Test against West Indies.
