Dinesh Karthik, an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman who is also the captain for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was seen in Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) jersey during a match between St Kitts & Nevis in Port of Spain during the Caribbean premier league (CPL). Both Franchises Kolkota Knight Riders (TKR) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) are owned by the Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse Jay Mehta. Both Franchises also share the same head coach that is Brendon McCullum.
The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman was then issued a notice by BCCI for violating the guidelines of his central contract.
As per BCCI contract, no players are allowed to participate in any sport or sporting activity without prior permission from the board.
In his response, Dinesh Karthik said, “My coming to Trinidad was at the invitation of head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, Brendon McCullum, who also happens to be the head coach of TKR. He felt that it’ll be useful for me as a captain of KKR, to come for some discussions with him in regard to KKR.”
“I wish to tender an unconditional apology for not seeking permission from BCCI prior to embarking on this visit,” Dinesh Karthik wrote in his apology letter.
“I wish to reiterate that I have neither participated in any TKR related activities nor played any role whatsoever for TKR,” Karthic added.
The KKR skipper has assured the board that he “will not be seated in the TKR dressing room for the remaining matches” before his departure from Trinidad.
Because of Karthik’s unconditional apology, the Committee of Administrators is likely to close the matter.
The 34-year-old Dinesh Karthik last played for India in the semifinals vs Newzealand at the 2019 world cup, England where Newzealand stood victorious. Since then he has been out of the both T20I and ODI squads for India.
