The former bowling coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team, Azhar Mehmood, will be signing in as an assistant coach for the hosts, England, against the three-match T20I series to be played with Pakistan.
The bowling coach, Jon Lewis, will be supported by Pakistan’s former bowling coach, as revealed by the latest announcement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Azhar Mehmood joins England squad as an assistant coach for the T20I series against Pakistan.
“England Young Lions coach Jon Lewis will be the bowling coach, and he is to be supported by former Pakistan international and bowling coach Azhar Mahmood,” England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
Azhar is to take the place of Graham Thrope, who will be serving as a head coach for the T20I series.
Paul Collingwood will serve as assistant coach whereas Marcus Trescothick and James Foster have been appointed as batting and fielding coach respectively. (Source: ARY)
To be noted, Azhar signed in as a bowling coach for Pakistan from 2016-2019. He lastly coached the boys in the ICC World Cup 2019.
The sides will be seen in action for T20I series behind closed doors on the mentioned dates below:
28 Aug – 1st T20I, Old Trafford
30 Aug – 2nd T20I, Old Trafford
1 Sep – 3rd T20I, Old Trafford
However, one of the three test matches is remaining that will decide the fate if England will whitewash Pakistan by 2-0 or the series would be leveled by 1-1.
On the other hand, for Pakistan, Younis Khan will be the mentor of the Pakistan Cricket Team for a longer span. Misbah ul Haq, the head coach-cum-chief selector, is inspired by his role and will be extending his role.
Earlier, Younis has been appointed as the batting coach of the Men in green for England tour only.
The contract will be presented to him after Pakistan will be done with the three-match Test and T20I series against England.
