Match Preview

It’s been rather surprising to see Northern Knights posting a poor performance in the tournament so far considering the players they have at their disposal. Not only have they lost both their matches, but their losses have also been one-sided and that is evident by their terrible net run-rate, which is -2.267.

In both the matches that the Knights have lost, there was one factor that was common – their batting. Despite having an experienced and explosive batting unit, the Knights could not score as well as they’d have liked and a lot of that could be attributed to the fact that not many of their players had played the game in recent times.

Against the Firebirds, they managed to put just 148 runs on the board with Tim Seifert top-scoring for them. Apart from Seifert, however, there was no one in the Knights’ top-order who managed to take the attack to the opposition. As expected, the total they posted was easily knocked off by Wellington Firebirds.

There’s a lot that the Knights need to improve upon going forward in the competition. They have the team on paper, but the lack of execution is hurting them. If they can get their execution right, the Knights will be in a decent chance against the Volts.

Things do not look promising in terms of weather conditions as thunderstorms with a 90 per cent chance of rainfall are expected to take place, bringing the temperature around the 20 degree Celsius mark.

A batsmen-friendly surface with some amount of help coming in for the pacers in patches throughout the match is expected to welcome the players when they take the field on Saturday.
