Jaffna Stallions’ Asif Ali has withdrawn himself from the squad for the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL 2020). Asif presents his personal issues as a reason for backing himself out from the squad.

The mid-order hard-hitter has informed the management of Stallions of his withdrawal. Currently, he is in Karachi dominating Northern in the Quaid e Azam trophy 2020-21.

However, Jaffna Stallions are lauded for the professional services of Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and pacer Usman Shinwari. Both of the players have joined their respective teammates.

Also, Kamran Akmal, the wicket-keeping batsman has refrained himself from the squad. Notably, many players who were supposed to be part of LPL 2020, have withdrawn themselves for some reasons.

The T20 league is finally all set to be commenced by 26th November facing multiple hurdles in the way after Sri Lanka’s president had given green signals to drag the league ahead.

Only one of Hambantota’s Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium is under consideration to wind up the league. Earlier, Sooriyawewa, Pallekele, and Dambulla, with the semi-finals and final in Pallekele were the decided venues but as the second layer of COVID-19 is an inn in most of the countries, the board has decided to cut off the venues.

In addition, Galle Gladiators’ Shahid Afridi, who was to lead the team, got late on the flight and is now on the way to reach Sri Lanka. He might miss one or two games and Bhanuka Rajapaksa will lead in his absence.

However, Colombo is all set to lock horns with Kandy in the opening match of the new T20 league at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium.
