India Women won the toss and decided to field first against South Africa. South Africa Women sent Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt to open the innings. Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt provided South Africa with a sound start with their partnership of 76 runs. Lizelle Lee scored 40 runs on 54 balls for 3 fours and a six, while Laura Wolvaardt piled up 69 runs for 98 balls after hitting 7 fours.

South Africa Women wicketkeeper Trisha Chetti got out for 22 runs off 42 balls. Mignon du Preez and Lara Goodall scored 44 runs and 38 runs respectively, while South Africa Women captain Sune Luus scored 12 runs off 13 balls. Marizanne Kapp and Shamnim Ismail remained not out after scoring 11 runs and 1 run respectively.

South Africa finished on 247 runs off 6 wickets after 50 overs. India Women’s Shikha Pandey, Ekta Bisht, and Poonam Yadav claimed two wickets each for their team against South Africa Women.

India Women’s innings against South Africa Women:

India required 248 runs off 50 overs to win the match against South Africa Women. Priya Punia and Jemimah Rodrigues opened the innings for India. Priya Punia scored 20 runs off 42 balls, while Jemimah Rodrigues lost her wicket to Ayabonga Khaka on 18 runs off 24 balls.

Punam Raut and India Women captain Mithali Raj took a stand of 129 runs for the third wicket to secure the game for their team. Punam Raut played a magnificent innings of 65 runs off 92 balls for 7 fours, while India Women captain Mithali Raj outstandingly amassed 66 runs off 82 balls after hitting 8 fours. India wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur remained not out towards the end of the innings.

Harmanpreet Kaur finished on 39 runs off 27 balls with 5 fours and a six to finish the chase of 248 runs in 48 overs for India. India Women finished their innings on 248 runs for 5 wickets, winning the game by 5 wickets with 2 overs remaining.

Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp took one wicket each for South Africa Women. Ayabonga Khaka claimed three wickets for her team but also proved to be the most expensive bowler from the South African side, after conceding 69 runs in 10 overs at the economy rate of 6.9.

India’s Punam Raut was awarded “Player of the Match” for her brilliant performance with the bat. Punam Raut scored 65 runs off 92 balls and contributed in the 129 runs partnership for the third wicket with her captain Mithali Raj. Punam Raut and Mithali Raj’s innings put India Women into the winning position in their chase for 248 runs.

India Women have now secured the three-match ODI series against South Africa Women by 2-0 with one match to go. India Women defeated South Africa Women by 8 wickets with 50 balls remaining as they chased the target of 165 runs in the first ODI. India also won the six-match T20I series against South Africa Women by 3-1 with two matches being abandoned. The third and last ODI of South Africa Women tour of India will be played on October 14.
